STC Announces Certification
| 08 May 2010 |
At the 2010 Technical Communication Summit in Dallas, STC announced that it is launching a certification program. Within the next year, technical communicators will be able to attain certification in their profession.
As noted in STC’s Notebook, certification brings two major benefits to technical communicators:
- Certification establishes a solid foundation for the legitimacy and economic contribution of technical communication
- Certified practitioners can clearly demonstrate their expertise as technical communicators, greatly enhancing their value in the marketplace
Technical communicators will become certified in six core competency areas:
- User analysis
- Document design
- Project management
- Authoring (content creation)
- Delivery
- Quality assurance
Certification is a major development for the society and the profession as a whole. For lone writers interested in certification, the SIG’s website and mailing lists are your source for information. In addition, STC is developing a certification page on its website.
